In a concerted effort to combat gender-based violence (GBV) and foster a safer community, Strategies for Somali Youth Ambassador for Peace and Democracy (SYAPD) recently delivered a comprehensive three-day training session on GBV awareness. This pivotal event took place from February 13 to 15, 2024, and was specifically designed for 23 internally displaced women and seven gatekeepers in the targeted region.
Training Focus and Objectives
SYAPD remains unwavering in its commitment to providing specialized training sessions addressing critical issues such as female genital mutilation (FGM) and early marriages. These sessions are integral to SYAPD’s overarching mission to promote a safe and healthy future for all members of the Banadir community. By raising awareness and encouraging proactive engagement, SYAPD aims to significantly reduce the prevalence of GBV and its detrimental impacts on individuals and society.
Collaborative Efforts and Support
This training initiative was made possible through the invaluable support of UNFPA Somalia and IRIESEHUB. In collaboration with Dalbile, SYAPD is steadfastly working to mitigate violence against women and empower the community to take a stand against GBV. The partnership highlights the collective effort required to address such deeply entrenched issues and underscores the importance of community involvement in achieving lasting change.
Expanding Outreach to Deyniile IDPs Community
Beyond this recent training, SYAPD is also actively implementing GBV awareness programmes in the Deyniile IDPs community within the Banadir Region. These programmes are tailored to educate and empower internally displaced persons, equipping them with the knowledge and resources needed to identify, prevent, and respond to GBV.
Conclusion
SYAPD’s dedication to ending gender-based violence is reflected in its continuous efforts to educate and empower vulnerable populations. By fostering a culture of awareness and proactive engagement, SYAPD, alongside its partners, is paving the way for a safer and more equitable future for all. The recent training session is a testament to the positive impact that targeted education and community collaboration can achieve in the fight against GBV.
